We have now 3 market halls in Rotterdam.
The newest is Marché 010, opened early September in Rotterdam North, opposite the third stretch of Hofbogen with Eurotrash United in ZOHO (Zomerhofkwartier), an area known for makers.
The roofed mini market-hall, located in a former metal workshop, is accessible from two sides, Vijverhofstraat 45 and Schoterbosstraat.
In the middle of this hall is an open space with stalls selling ice cream, olives, flowers, fruits & (organic) vegetables. Along the walls are stalls in arches selling coffee, nuts and more, cheese by Seijns, pastry by Sweet Garden, fresh fish at Marost (they’ve also a shop at the great shopping street Zwaanshals), bread and Moroccan savory snacks at Mezane, Indonesian food by Rami, snacks by Chicken010, Déliz Sandwich BBQ, Dönerhouse, Fries ‘n Falafel and Mr. Kumper’s baked patato. Soon Mevlana’ll open for grill and halal meat.
Outside are picnic-tables; inside, stairs on both sides lead to a balcony with a seating area where you can sit, eat and drink what you bought downstairs.
Don’t expect a Markthal or Fenix Food Factory. Marché 010 is a wonderful initiative by entrepreneur and local resident Hakim Farkouchi, for and with the people from the Agniese-area. Great for snacking and doing your daily shopping for a good price.
I liked the enthusiasm of the producers and traders I met. Some are start-ups. It just needs time to settle and could use a good website, but it’s a perfect spot to visit when exploring the North.
TIP! Bring your own shopping-bag!
