A 20-minute bike ride from the city centre will bring you in quite a different atmosphere. Situated right at the shore of the Bergse voorplas (see article) Mendoza wine bar offers a sunny terrace with a view and great wines! Mendoza is not the kind of trendy pop-up style cladded with wooden wine boxes kind of bar.
Actually the interior is pretty average. You probably won’t find a lot of hipsters among the customers, but I think just that makes the place really local, because this is exactly what the neighbourhood is about.
When I traveled to Argentina I fell in love with this country and its wines. Apparently I was not the only one because at Mendoza the affection is not only shown in the menu but you can also get travel tips to visit the wine regions and other highlights of the country.
I’m happy to see the staff really knows what they’re talking about and on top of that they are very generous. Never problems with pouring a little more and you can taste all the wines by the glass before ordering them. You can also order half glasses of all the open wines so you can shape your own tasting without being carried away too quickly by the Malbecs and oak-aged Chardonnays.
For me a few new windows were opened to the world of Argentine wine. Mostly known for being easy-drinking but not necessarily complex but Mendoza shows there’s a lot more to taste!
