Not that long ago the Schieblock building was scheduled to be torn down to the ground in order to create a new fancy hotel. Luckily the local government understood the success of the Schieblock and took control back into their own hands again. Resulting in a building full of hot spots created by young and local entrepreneurs.
Knowing it’s a hard choice on its own I really recommend you also visit Op Het Dak (Translated: ‘On the Roof’), a small lunchroom with a great view, good food (try the ‘Brekkie’) and nice staff. Op Het Dak previously only opened on Wednesdays but hard work pays off. They refurbished the whole place and it now opens 5 days a week till the sun goes down. It’s a nice spot to have breakfast, lunch or to have a drink at the end of the day. Take a comfortable seat in the sun (when possible of course) and enjoy the good life. Op Het Dak had been busy arranging the right permits to allow you to have a bite and a beer outside in the sun or inside in their cosy bistro. Good news! The permit is obtained, well done guys.
The menu changes according to the season and to what can be harvested from their rooftop garden.
