There’s no denying I am getting older. My hair gets thinner, I grumble about the modern youth and vote for conservatives – all the classic symptoms. But getting older has some advantages. It means you know who your friends are, you know what you like and you have at least some habits, so that daily life is much less ridden with questions.
In my case, my friends are largely my university buddies, I like good coffee with pastry and I enjoy meeting them all in the weekends. Nowadays I live outside the center so we don’t meet that often. But I will always remember our old hangout at Pierre, where they serve great coffee and a date torte to die for.
Pierre is the place to be in Rotterdam for affordable French cuisine. I can recommend the grilled fish with fennel and prawns. Paris is another grand city I’ve never been to, but just like nearby Barcelona, Pierre allows me to have the feeling of being in Paris without leaving town.
