I am a theatre lover. So I visit the theatre a lot. The Ro theater is our own municipal theatre group. It has the mission to make theatre plays for every citizen of Rotterdam, young or old, rich or poor, so the plays they create are diverse. They put on plays with mothers who cook a meal for their audience as well as high brow classics like Death of a Salesman.
My favourite kind of play by the Ro theater is their annual family performance which they bring around Christmas. The past twenty five years the Ro Theater has had a lot of success with these musical-like plays aimed at the entire family with simple gags for the small children and hidden innuendos and tongue in cheeks for the grown ups.
This year the Ro Theater has said goodbye to its artistic director Alize Zandwijk and has joined with municipal theatre group Wunderbaum. Alize’s place has been taken over by the duo Boogaerdt/Van der Schoot. Together with the Rotterdamse Schouwburg and theatre group Wunderbaum they are now Theater Rotterdam.
Warning: almost all plays are in Dutch and there is no translation overhead. So check this out before you go.
