My friend Reniá suggested writing about Round & Round, as we really like ‘Hoogkwartier‘ – the neighbourhood around the second stretch of Hoogstraat, from Mariniersweg to Oostplein. Reniá and I started as a Spotter-duo in 2009 and now our 68 spots have been divided among us, due to technical reasons, to continue as solo-Spotters. Reniá loves savoury and I love sweets, so Round & Round landed on my to-go-list :).
I fell in love with this place instantly! A large playfully designed mural in black and white, opposite a counter full of delicious Japanese cake rolls makes it very inviting and attractive.
Round & Round’s owners Bing & Chao are two talkative Chinese expats, passionate about design and Japanese cake rolls. They create their own recipes and try to give their cakes a soft texture with natural flavors and low sugar and fat in the cakes. For me the perfect marriage with a strong Matcha Latte!
“Look cute and taste good” is their motto and it’s true. Their cakes will put you in a good mood, just like walking round and round in a little forest. You can wander around and find a nice place to sit (inside or outside), cool art to buy and good stuff to eat and drink. Occasionally they host creative workshops.
Thanks to Round & Round-cake, I encountered a whole new world delight and cuteness – as I didn’t know anything about Japanese cake!! Go here for good coffee, organic and Matcha tea, sweets and more. Leave a tip, their money box is fun!
