You have few choices when it comes to your sewing and knitting needs in Rotterdam. Of course you can try your luck at the weekly Binnenrotte Market, where you’ll find stalls offering a wide range of fabrics and haberdashery or cross the Willemsbridge for Jacques Stoffen in the old Entrepot building, otherwise your best options down town are Domburg or Schröder
Schröder is the leading fabric retailer in Rotterdam, selling a huge range of quality textiles. They moved in 2015 from Coolsingel to a new location at West Blaak and that’s when I sort of lost track of them until recently. This new spot just fits them perfectly, with large windows (special glass that blocks the sunlight to protect what they display – in case you’re wondering, as I did ;)). Schöder is notorious for their Bridal Fabrics department on the ground floor and extensive and diverse range of seven thousand fabrics! I like their super friendly, creative and knowledgeable staff that loves to help you find the fabrics or wool to match your ideas.
Their collection of haberdashery and things will help you get started or add the finishing touches to your projects. Imagine over 25.000 buttons, just looking at them makes me greedy.
The extra 100m² gave Schröder the opportunity to expand their wonderful collection of fabrics by also selling wool, mostly by Scheepjes. Nice, but when it comes to wool I can also recommend: Ja, wol – hippest in town for natural yarns or Het Garenrijk (aka Lydialane).
