The people of Uit je Eigen Stad (which means: from your own city) are on a mission. They want to raise awareness for the food that we eat, how it is produced and where it comes from. Also they want to show that it is not necessary to get your food from the other side of the world, when most of it can easily be produced locally, or even in your own city.
To do this they have set up a city farm in the Fruithavens (the part of the harbour where fruit and vegetables from the other side of the world used to be brought to the city). This is also where they started their first restaurant.
Recently, with the help of a crowdfunding campaign, Uit je Eigen Stad has opened a second restaurant at a more central location right at the back of Central Station in a former supermarket. This is a great place to grab a coffee and something to eat if you are rushing to the train, but it is an even better place to start off your day quietly enjoying a delicious breakfast. The place opens at 07:00, which makes it the ideal place for some early morning productivity. For breakfast you really must try the sandwich with two boiled eggs and delicious homemade mayonaise.
All the food they serve either comes from their own city farm or is otherwise locally produced, and all is freshly made.
