Another reason to head into the northern part of the city! Located next to the renovated old Bergweg train station, close to coffee bar Hoofdkantoor (check the Hoofdkantoor article), you can find The Urban Bakery. A little shop where you can buy homemade cakes, pies, cookies and of course bread. They’re all traditionally prepared with natural, honest products and lots of care and joy.
In the shop you can see the work in progress (check the link for a video, in English). You can go in, buy what you need and walk along if you want to. Though I prefer to sit down at one of the cozy tables to enjoy a chocolate chip cookie combined with a good espresso. As you will be looking at the desk full of pies, cakes, muffins and the like your espresso kind of looks lonely on the small table. You must order something sweet next to it. Close your eyes, wave around with your finger and say ‘stop’. Order and enjoy!
The shop at the Voorburgstraat is one of the two shops in Rotterdam. The other Bakery can be found at the Hoogstraat 42. Just a few minute walk from the Markthal.
PS. Even though the summer has come to an end, you can still hangout at the small terrace outside. Dress up warm and enjoy the winter sun!
