One of the coffee bars near the Binnenrotte square where the main library, the Markthal and the Blaak (train)station are, the – now named Urban Espresso Bar 9 – is one of my favourite places for a cuppa and a bite.
This UEB has changed owner last December and they added the 9, which refers to the “bar” for pressing their coffee. Despite the change of hands, this UEB 9 is more or less the same, serving the same brand of coffee and the homemade cakes as before.
Besides serving great coffee and tea, check the menu and the wall for food info and the specials of the day if you feel peckish. How about a plate with sourdough bread, ricotta cheese, roasted mushrooms and cherry tomatoes? Or homemade hazelnut paste with bananas on a slice of white bread? There’s also plenty of choice available for the sweet tooth.
UEB 9 is small and relaxed and the staff is attentive. During warmer seasons it has a terrace in the front ánd back.
One ‘original’ Urban Espresso Bar can still be found in the West part of town. It’s nicely located on a corner on the crossing of the Nieuwe Binnenweg 263 and Claes de Vrieslaan. This is a very lively part of town which makes it a great spot for people watching. This UEB is also a bit bigger and you can catch sun rays well into the afternoon.
Chase the best coffee in town by hopping between these two Urbans.
