Rotterdam is not about tradition of years past, Rotterdam is about today… and some people are all about tomorrow. You can notice this through architecture and design scattered around town that express this sense of moving forward.
An example of this attitude is found at the South bank of the Maas. The headquarters of Unilever is one of my favorite examples, the new headquarters are built literally across the old Unilever factory.
But to experience tomorrow, go to V2_ Medialabs, institute for unstable media. Right across the corner in the Witte de Withstraat the V2_ institute has its headquarters and exhibition space.
Their shows and exhibitions feature the most innovative interaction designers and contemporary artists in the field of media and technology. An example is the renowned Daan Roosegaarde who recently revealed his latest creation at V2_.
They organize talks, exhibitions and showcases of new projects. Check their website for events due and go there for an experience never to be forget! This is what Rotterdam is all about!
