I realise that several of my articles contain some sort of reference to picnics (or some other form of consuming food, coffee or alcohol in a public place). The reason is simple: I love being outside, I love food and this combination often results in some form of picnic, especially when the sun is shining.
This little place in on the Aelbrechtskolk in Delfshaven was a great find last summer. Firstly, it’s a lovely route to get there, past all the old and beautiful houses, several little eating-places, boutique shops and independent galleries. Once you get to this tiny pier you can unload your picnic basket, or book and enjoy the sun while dangling your feet in the water.
The location is not as perfect as it could have been, as you look out over the more modern buildings, instead of the historic ones covered in wisteria. However the floating gardens and the sky reflecting in the canal make up for that and it’s still worth a visit.
