What if I told you that you can go on a trip around the world for free? That the whole trip would take just a couple of hours, and you don’t even have to leave Rotterdam for it? Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, welcome to the Wereldmuseum.
I am a rather seasoned traveler. When I want to re-live my travels, or get the travel bug, the Wereldmuseum, suitably housed in the former Royal Yachting Club, is where I go for a quick taste of what the world has to offer. My favorite stop is the Tibetan temple, where prayers and bells sound and smoke billows from the incense sticks. I just have to close my eyes and I’m instantly teleported to a mountain stupa.
If you are in a splashing mood, you can make your travel experience complete by dining at the restaurant. Personally, I find € 20 for a starter rather discouraging, especially since I can buy a ticket to Bangkok cheaper than that. The main collection of the museum is for free, but hurry – the Wereldumuseum is in dire straits financially and might not remain free for long.
