Welcome to the Comics Library, first in St. Petersburg and third in Russia. It appeared in 2012 on the basis of the “Izmaylovskaya” library, next to the British Books Center and Library of book graphics. It took several years for Dmitry Yakovlev, library curator and director of the International Comics Festival Boomfest, to implement this project. As the comic book genre has only existed in our country for about 20 years, there are few comics in Russian (most of them – translations of foreign analogues) and many people still treat comics as something unserious. But in the last years there appear more and more people who are deeply interested in “drawn stories”.
Today the collection of “drawn stories” is about 1000 copies. Most of the comics – American, European, Asian – in their original languages. In addition to comic books, graphic novels, manga, artbooks, magazines, there is a collection of manuals on the creation of comics and fanzines. You can read books in the library or take them home (only bring your passport and sign up).
Library books were provided by the French Institute in St. Petersburg, members of the Frankfurt Book Fair and the U.S. Consulate General in St. Petersburg. There are also many books of the Boomkniga, publishing house of Dmitry Yakovlev , who strives to find and translate interesting European and Russian comics.
You should definitely come here, even if you don’t know much about comics – to look through, read, and fall in love with them at first sight :).
