The abbreviation MISP contains four important words: Museum of St.Petersburg Art. This spot is extremely local: the museum specializes in the arts and artists of the city during the period of its impressive transformation in the 20th and 21st century. One of my very good friends once said to me – “Art always reflects the processes and dynamics of a society. If you would like to understand any social event, check the art pieces of that period and you may find the answers“.
So, if you are interested in seeing how St. Petersburg was transformed into Petrograd, then Leningrad and then back to St.Petersburg, this museum can give you a perspective. There is no constant exhibition in MISP, all events are temporary and are about certain periods or a certain aspect of city life. The museum does not look big, though it has 4 floors with paintings, sculptures, and installations.
I recommend checking this spot even if you are not really into arts because it has a wonderful inner yard with murals, a pyramid and a coffee place 🙂
