– So… you are the Spotter from Saint Petersburg and you have never been there?
– Shame on you! Let’s go!
This fascinating dialog happened yesterday and the guy blaming me is my elder brother, who inspired me to write this article. I agree with him, this Art Space Pushkinskaya, 10 is a great multiple-spot area that is interesting for those who love culture. Museum of nonconformist art is a resident of that space, so just to be clear I will only talk about this particular spot now.
The museum started with a collection of modern art pieces made by Leningrad ‘non-official’ painters in 1980-1990. Now visitors have an opportunity to see different exhibitions and learn more about this art wave. Sometimes it looks weird, but I believe that modern art is the mirror of society, so classical art shows us how things happened before, while the modern art provide insights regarding actual problems and values of a local community.
Apart from these global things, you can discuss whether it’s possible to understand the meaning of the collection ‘The Way of Match-box’ with your co-visitor. My brother and I did and we had a really heated debate :).
Then we moved to another art gallery passing by Mousetrap Museum, located in the same complex, but this will be another story. To be continued.. 🙂
