In the meantime, one more post to prove that contemporary forms of art also exist in St.Pete. Welcome to Pig’s Snout Art Gallery, my friends!
The group of local creatives organised the association ‘Magic Artists’ (that is my literary translation) and started a new genre, which they defined as “multrealism”. It somehow reminds me of comics, but it looks more brutal in my opinion. The Magic Artists want to dramatise the stupidity and make drama look stupid, so each piece of artwork in the Pig’s Snout, their headquarters, intends to provoke the audience.
I was immediately impressed as soon as I entered the gallery. This relatively small spot (it is, in fact, a redesigned old apartment) hosts a rich collection that demands the visitor’s time and attention. There are several small halls with paintings, and one is predictably dedicated to pigs. Despite the satiric form, the artists of Pig’s Snout talk about the social and political problems of everyday life. So, it’s not just for fun.
Exhibitions are changing every two weeks and include not only local artists, but also their peers from all over the country.
