If I want to turn back time and enjoy some nostalgia from my happy Soviet childhood, I sometimes pop up in to Pirozhkovaya at Moskovsky pr.192. Located in a nice building in Stalin empire style and opened in 1956, it still serves a lot of customers with the fast food of that time: roasted belyashi, egg in pastry and different kinds of cakes as well as “coffee 3-in-1 from the big pot” – at very affordable prices starting from 25 Rub per cake.
The interior and the staff look like you really are back in a USSR cafe – white tiles on the walls, iron rails, middle aged ladies in white robes at the counter. And surely the furniture – a lot of high tables where you can only stand. I think the only change is the napkins on the tables instead of the sliced packaging paper like back in the day. And the service has fortunately improved significantly. The staff is very friendly and make the place quite cozy and special. The food is of good quality and the cafe is often full with customers who have been loyal for dozens of years.
