The Street Art Museum is located in the a laminated plastics factory (some of it is still functioning in the background). I always liked the places in Saint Petersburg where opposites work together.
Art is always evolving and finding new forms. Here you can meet one of them. Watching how huge industrial buildings have become a canvas for modern artists is quite impressive. Take a stroll around and you may feel like the little people when they first met Gulliver.
About 20 murals made by contemporary artists have been put together in a permanent exhibition. The place is divided in two zones with a big open space each where you can see the biggest works or explore the inside of the industrial facilities and discover the temporary exhibitions there.
The gallery often turns into a venue for large-scale events. One of the biggest festivals of electronic music and modern art Present Perfect Festival takes place among these huge industrial buildings.
Besides enjoying the art, you can relax in local cafes, grab a beer or even play basketball – there is a basketball court in one of the buildings.
A few “heads-up”s before your visit: it is a seasonal place, open from May till October. Also, it’ll take you some time to get there as it is not in the city center, but it’s totally worth it.
