Suvorov museum is one of my most loved buildings in Saint Petersburg, but at the same time it’s absolutely uncommon for the city. It’s made of light grey bricks and decorated with two mosaic panels on opposite sides of the entrance. The building has several towers and a main rectangular dome.
The building was constructed in 1901-1904 for Suvorov Museum – the first memorial museum in Russia, dedicated to a person, Alexander Suvorov. Funds were raised for this construction. As the campaign started not only the money, but also different trophies and showpieces were received.
Now it’s really worth seeing if you are traveling with kids, especially if they are boys! There is quite an interesting collection of Russian arms and weapons, some of them could be even played with during a special game for kids, that is held by the museum occasionally.
If you are not interested in Suvorov’s battle honors, Russian army trophies or pieces of off-duty life, don’t waste your time just enjoy the architecture of the very building and continue your walk in Taurus garden, that is just across the road.
