As far as Russia goes it’s one of those few countries that belong to a list of not-conquered and not-colonized by Britain, so it’s quite hard to find a good afternoon tea in St Petersburg. Still seek and ye shall find!
Not so far away in one of the magnificent noble mansions of the city a brand new hotel by Four Seasons was launched. Now it’s called Lion Palace for the creatures guarding the main entrance of the hotel. So don’t be scared and pass them by, be impressed by the chic restored interiors made of marble, plaster and gold and go straight to the Tea Lounge that is located in the very center of the public space. There’s a harp beckoning you there with its music. Don’t worry it’s not as boring as one can expect it to be, usually it performs some covers of the Beatles and other popular songs.
So here in the Tea Lounge they serve classic afternoon tea with small sandwiches, two types of scones and assorted miniature pastries. Everything is really delicious! There is an upscale version of the “tea”, that includes a glass of champagne and crepes with caviar (RUB 2350).
Don’t be in a rush, you won’t leave this place (palace) too fast!
Afternoon tea is served from 15:30 till 18:30 daily.
