One great thing about growing up in San Francisco in the ’70s and ’80s is that my definition of weird is a little different than most. For one day in May, you can weird too.
The How Weird Street Faire is a great start to the season of fantastic fairs we have in the city. It’s a great place for people watching. You can even find your own alter-ego here. Face paint and costumes are available at many booths!
This year is the 18th annual faire. The theme is the Summer of Weird, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love.
Don’t miss Circus Alley on Minna Street. Performance artists have flocked to the city since the days of the Barbary Coast. See amazing aerialists defy gravity on the silks and trapeze. And re-imagine what the human body can do as you watch contortionists and sword swallowers. Some of my friends will be on stage!
You can find very unique souvenirs in the Art Alley. Talk to locals and find something special to remember the day!
You can pre-buy a Magic Button to get entrance to the faire. Who knows what other special treats may be in store.
