I learned about Montesacro Pinseria-Enoteca from an Instagram post by a local photographer. As a huge fan of Rome (Italy, that is) I couldn’t believe I hadn’t yet heard about this authentic Roman spot and I knew I had to check it out!
Although located in a gritty part of San Francisco, once you walk through the doors of Montesacro Pinseria-Enoteca, you’ll feel like you’re transported to a Roman Trattoria of sorts. And, it’s the first Roman Pinseria-Enoteca to open in the U.S.!
Aperitivo (Happy Hour) is a great time to try Montesacro for the first time. For our first experience, my boyfriend and I tried the Rosè on their happy hour wine list and munched on pinsa. The simplest way I can think of to describe pinsa is it’s like a flatbread pizza. The difference is that Montesacro puts their own spin on making the dough and it’s a blend of rice, soy and wheat flour imported directly from Rome which are all GMO-free. There are more than 12 varieties of pinsa on the menu, including vegetarian and vegan, so you are sure to find one or two that suits your tastes!
I also recommend the formaggi and salumi a-la-carte. You can select as few or as many as you like and there are lots to choose from!
Now I just need to find a pinseria-enoteca in Rome!
