San Francisco’s Japan Town is popular among tourists and locals. For years, Japan Bowl, the largest bowling alley in the city sat on Post Street. Locals have lots of memories of school trips and even corporate events held there. It was one of the cool places where I’d hang out as a kid.
Now the site is home to a modern entertainment complex. There are art exhibits upstairs and a tea shop on the first floor.
In the basement is the New People Cinema, a 143 seat theater with cutting edge projection and awesome sound.
Many film festivals use this venue, including the Japan Film Festival, SF IndieFest, SF International Film Festival and CAAMFest (formerly the Asian American Film Festival).
Lots of cool movies from Japan show throughout the year. Manga and Japanese Anime fans can always find something fun on the screen here! But, don’t forget to go upstairs to experience more J-Pop in art, music and fashion.
At New People, there isn’t a bad seat in the house!
