Pomelo is one of those places that I have been to several times; it’s another of my “back-pocket” places, restaurants or bars that I can “pull out of my back pocket” when I need great and reliable sustenance.
I am not a huge brunch participant, but I was recently reminded how enjoyable a late Sunday morning meal can be. It was too windy to enjoy the tables outside, but the cozy interior was sunny and brightened by the brunch cocktail I was offered – a hibiscus mimosa. It was perfect and refreshing – neither too sweet nor tart.
Our brunch that early afternoon consisted of sharing two entrees – the Monty Cristo, a very tasty polenta “sandwich” with prosciutto and mozzarella, grilled and coated with a balsamic reduction, and a cornflake encrusted chicken breast sandwich with house-made potato chips. Both had layers of flavours and textures – the quality was unexpectedly very high for the price point and size of this great little place. There is also a second location in the Inner Sunset – check the website.
Tip – if you are a fan of “breakfast dessert”, order the “makena” after your main breakfast. It’s an amazingly luscious banana-stuffed mascarpone brioche french toast with macadamia nuts and coconut syrup.
