There are very few jazz clubs in Sarajevo, actually I can only think of two, so Monument is your place of choice if you’re a jazz lover looking for a place to go out. It is located in Strossmayerova street, in the very center of the city, opposite the cathedral.
Once you get inside the building, the stairs will lead you to the basement and you’ll enter this really cozy and nicely organized space, with dimmed lights and a lovely stage. This is a really intimate place just like jazz clubs ought to be. The atmosphere is relaxed with a laid back vibe, and the music is at the perfect volume. You can enjoy performances, and still be able to chat with your friends.
There is a long list of foreign and local bands and artists who performed on Monument’s Late Night Stage with solo concerts or jam sessions. From November until April it’s concert season, once or twice a week you can stumble onto stand up nights, but don’t worry, they organize events out of the season too. If you want to make sure you’ll get a seat, then I suggest you make a reservation, because sometimes it gets really crowded. As for the prices for the tickets and beverages, they are really acceptable.
The best thing about Monument, besides great jazz, is that you can count on a gig during the whole week and not just on a weekend, and something like that is really rare in Sarajevo.
