This neighborhood is one of the most remarkable spots in Skopje. A place so close to the city center, yet so secluded it makes you feel like you are in a quiet suburb. At least that’s how I feel whenever I walk through this wonderful place. And I really love this neighborhood, the people, because it has a special kind of magic to it. It’s peaceful, yet hectic, quiet, but at times raging with parties.
One of the most frequented streets is Aminta Treti (up until recently it was called Leninova) and it’s one of the most recognizable places in this area. Packed with cafes, lounge bars and restaurants – this is the place to go catch up with friends and party at night. Whichever place you choose you cannot go wrong. My favorite cafes here are Casa, Krug, Kala, Kino Karposh and lately Sotto. If you are up for some late night partying then you can head on to Jukebox or to Ballet.
And then there are the kafanas (the traditional Macedonian restaurants). If you are up for quality food and reasonable prices you should visit my all time favorite kafana Staro Skupi near the City Park. It is right in the middle between two amazing pizzerias – Zanzibar and Costa Rica that I also highly recommend. But you know what? Debar Maalo is so cool and beautiful, you could just walk around and soak in the energy and you’d still have a wonderful time.
