More than a decade after closing, Kino Kultura is back on the art map of Skopje, transforming itself into a Centre for contemporary performing arts and independent culture. Jointly run by LOKOMOTIVA and Theatre Navigator Cvetko, this time the space will be used with a new concept and a fresh team from the independent cultural scene, with special emphasis placed on contemporary performing arts, theater and dance. Kino Culture has always been the symbol of urban life in Skopje and this new initiative is just returning it to the city of Skopje.
Let’s start with the location. Street Macedonia, right in the centre of the town. Reconstructed, refurnished and reopened. The list of organised activities is quite long and is being updated through their Facebook page. Besides movies, concerts, art performances, theatre shows and many more artistic events, I know for sure that there will be acting and dance lessons, book readings and debates. But I believe there is more to come as time goes by.
The opening was a huge success with many attendees and a lively atmosphere. You could sense that something like this was needed. An open, independent scene for artists to express themselves, a gathering place for urban culture in Skopje. But most of all, for me I think it’s a great way to contribute to the educational, social and community development in our town. I am ultra excited about it and can’t wait for their weekly agenda.
