In today’s rushed times and changes, it is quite hard to be on the wave and hold it. Skopje is becoming more and more of a European capital where modern lounges, bars and restaurants start to pop up at every corner. As much as I enjoy being one of the first people to spot new places to share, sometimes I like to stick with the neighborhood bar that’s been around since one can remember.
Such is Van Gogh bar. Opened in 1986, it is the first bar opened in Skopje and it is located in the heart of the city, Debar Maalo. And if you find yourself in Skopje on a Monday, then all the roads must take you to Van Gogh. The bar sets the tone of the week with an amazing live gig provided by the Macedonian band ‘Day Off’ that plays there every Monday night. They will help you relieve the hard beginning of the week with notes of Old School Rock, Alternative Rock, Grunge, Blues.
Since Macedonians are hot blooded, they like to enjoy the terraces as much as possible until late November or even on the beautiful sunny days of winter. While visiting Van Gogh do enjoy their Freddo Cappuccino during the day or select from their diverse menu of cocktails at night.
