Like every major capital city, Skopje is blessed with being divided by water. Vardar river banks are not as popular as the Seine or Thames, but is definitely a place to enjoy and observe the city or the water, or just be active while jogging, walking or biking.
Since Skopje is not affected by blizzards or very low temperatures, being active all year round is quite an easy challenge to hop on. I am not a big fan of gyms, since we stay so much indoors hiding from cold or just working and an outdoor gym sounds like the best thing ever. Since I like being a tourist in my own city, or just the city that adopted me for some time, discovering Skopje by strolling the Vardar river banks it is definitely a must. Over 20 km long, you can go for a half marathon by strolling or if you are into running, definitely go ahead and go for it. The runners will always confirm that there is no better way to discover a city by being active on its streets.
Yet, the best attraction of the banks is not the fitness appeal, but the beautiful views over Vodno mountain and its gorgeous sunsets. I definitely got my most breathtaking sunsets while jogging, it makes being active even more enjoyable.
