Ljubljana - a smart city (by Jost Derlink)

Last week on a congress I heard the term “smart cities” for the first time.

Not knowing what it meant, of course I Googled. On the website of the European Smart Cities Project I found out a lot more about it.

This project does not research the usual “global” metropolises, but rather medium-sized cities.  There has not been a lot of research on cities between 100,000 and 500,000 inhabitants, although 40% of the urban population lives there.

The result of the research project is a ranking of the “smartest” medium sized cities, benchmarked onthe following critera: economy, mobility, environment, people, living and governance.

Smartest medium-sized city is Luxembourg. Because most of the top 70 are not capitals, there’s only one of “our” cities on it: Ljubljana - ranked number 17 out of the 1600 cities researched!

Check the website for the report!
