Living in a big city sometimes it’s a struggle to find local products in the markets and the idea of a market where small producers from all over Bulgaria can sell their produce directly without mediators was greeted very well.
After many years without farmers markets in Sofia, now the market near Rimskata stena shelters local producers every Saturday. The producers have to prove the origin of their products and to provide certificates if they offer organic products.
People seem to be very happy with the market (including me) because the offered products always sell out very quickly. The range of offered products has grown over time. Now you can find seasonal vegetables and fruits, dairy products, different kinds of honey, jams, fruit nectars, wines, bread and a lot more.
Most of the producers invite visitors to taste their products before they buy so you can be sure of their quality yourself. So far I have tasted, and after that regularly bought, different cheeses, raspberry wine, kiwi nectar and some bread which all are very good quality.
The opportunity to buy fresh local products is great for sure, but it’s not only that. I like the atmosphere which the market and people there create. It is inspiring to talk to people who are so passionate about what they do and who radiate positive energy. If you are interested in the products or you want any additional information don’t hesitate to ask the producers, they are always willing to answer.
