You might have already realised that I love places with a great view (check out the Pri Orlite, Tavan and Kopitoto articles). Actually, in Sofia it’s not too hard to enjoy a really nice vista. However, rarely does someone stumble across something that unexpected in such a central location.
This place used to be what we would call “ведомствен ресторант” – a restaurant in a government or other public administration building that used to serve only the people working there. Something like a canteen. Now, obviously it’s open for the general public but it’s not clear if it’s private. Let’s just say that it looks the way it looked thirty years ago. The good news? This applies for the prices.
You have to enter in the building of the Archives State Agency and let the security know that you are going up to the café. They will give you a pass. Then you take the elevator to the seventh floor, order a drink at the bar and preferably take it outside if the weather allows it and if there are any empty seats.
They have some food as well but don’t expect anything fancy. Moreover, I don’t think they have menus in English or anyone who would speak this strange foreign language. But that shouldn’t be a problem if you want to have a drink and enjoy the gorgeous view of Sofia city centre and Vitosha.
