+Tova is a lovely little coffee shop located at the end of the old and quiet Marin Drinov Street, framed with ash trees, in the deep center of Sofia. The first time I entered, I was pleased to see wooden furniture, minimalistic décor, and a few plants and paintings scattered on the walls. The feeling was homey, and quiet, with a lot of natural light coming from the large front windows (that can function as an additional seating area) The two tall handmade bookstands in the middle really gave the space an intellectual vibe. I bought an oat latte to go and made a point of going back there soon to study with my laptop. When I returned later that week, I drank more latte and tried their French quiche, both of which were great, and since then this coffee shop is one of my go-to spots for studying and working on my own or with a friend.

The place also functions as an alternative art gallery and showcases selected artwork exclusively by Bulgarian artists, including children’s books, ceramics, and home décor. The set-up changes depending on sporadic events and the changes in the vision of the curators. I love the non-intrusive aesthetic of it, the high ceiling, and the vast book selection they’ve got on those thick wooden book stands! More than anything I like the quiet of the street – it’s such a relief to know a place where you can always find peace when you need it!
