Sometimes it just so happens that I am a witness of transformation of some places in Sofia where I pass by quite often. For me, these moments are very exciting. The idea that what was an abandoned and neglected building will be brought to life again is very inspiring.
That’s why I was curious to understand what was going on at 6-ti Septemvri 22 street. The bright green color, the paintings and hanging bikes suggested that something interesting would appear soon. But the surprise definitely proved bigger than expected, and the name that the owners have chosen – Velodispanser is quite eloquent. “Dispanser” in Bulgarian means a type of a hospital, so literally said the Green house is a place for treatment of bikes.
When I first walked in I realized that Velodispanser is much more than that. The house is divided into two rooms – one has a workshop for repairing bicycles and shop for bikes and accessories, and the other room is a pleasant bar with tables, which is equally suitable for afternoon coffee and even more for a couple of beers after work or while waiting for your bike to be repaired.
What a discovery, and I had just returned from Prague and was sad that in Sofia we did not have something like their Bajkazyl (a place with the same concept). Once again, I am convinced that young people in Sofia are not afraid to make bold ideas come true and turn Sofia into a modern European capital.
