I’m sentimental about old times, not that I don’t like the present but somehow it is romantic to see and feel how life used to be before. Needless to say that I cherish it whenever I find an old style cafe and by this, I mean really old with its own history which has withstood the test of time.
There are places that somehow manage to stay untouched by time and Vlaikova cinema is a good example of that. The oldest cinema in Sofia (still functioning though) is one of those gems that will bring you back to the 1980s. The interior, the walls, the floor, even the visitors haven’t changed much, if at all. Stepping into its doors you will mostly feel like you’re taking part in an old movie or taking a trip with a time machine. I just love to spend a lazy afternoon sipping a cup of cappuccino and reading a book.
Today the cinema functions more as an art center and cafe, but movies are still projected almost on a daily basis. You shouldn’t expect something fancy from the menu in that area at least, but the main things here are the interior and the atmosphere and those are totally worth a try!
