Magasin 3 – Art in a different environment

Just finding Magasin 3 is an adventure, hiding in a warehouse at the 1st floor. Standing in the large elevator you keep asking yourself if this really is the right address. It is! There are three new exhibitions this fall/winter.

…Yeah it’s a bit outside of town but easy to get here thanks to the direct buses to Frihamnen. It’s so worth going! Just their little cafe makes the trip worth going, their cafe latte is d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s.

It’s very cheap and your ticket lasts the whole season. They have free guided tours every Saturday at 14:00, which I really recommend.

My favorite exhibition here so far is “Gravity, be my friend” by Pippilotti Rist’s, which was shown here last year. Downstairs you could lie down on massive cushions and watch calm and melancholic video installations in the ceiling. One was of beautifully colored leaves falling straight on you. It was a very special feeling just laying there next to strangers, watching something simple yet so affecting.

Vaxholm – Go fishing!

Is there a better way to get to know the spirit of a city than to hang at one set for a few hours, along with locals and just get into the town rhythm for a while?

I warmly recommend you to spend some of your Stockholm time fishing. Either you spend some time in Stockholm central, by our Riksdagshouse. Occasionally as they opens the gates the conditions for catching sea trout are widely known to be exquisite. It´s all there, just rent a fishing pole and spend an hour or two fishing and chatting with the locals.

If you are into fishing and have some more time to spend, arrange a day with a fishing guide, they have equipment, boats and know exactly where to go and what to do. There are really not many capital cities where you have this opportunity.

To visit Vaxholm, go from Strömkajen or Strandvägen, almost every boat passes here!

Vaxholm – Visit Amanda at Magasinet!

If you have made a full schedule for your Stockholm weekend and yet want to complete your weekend with some kind of archipelago experience I recommend you to take a boat tour and visit the ” capital of archipelago’s”, Vaxholm.

Almost every boat that departures from Stockholm city passes by Vaxholm. The tour takes nearly an hour and once here it´s you can enjoy even more boat life, shopping, eating, history and so on.

In summertime there are many restaurants to choose from, some more genuine then others. When I go there, I always make sure to stop by at “Magasinet”. It’s an old storage building that nowadays inhabitants’ a lovely store with different kind of interiors and if you walk up one more stair you’ll find a restaurant managed by a very dedicated woman.

For instance, she’s involved in Slowfood, she arranges theme nights and cookery classes. Everything on her menu is extremely well prepared, she makes everything from the basics she uses ingredients that are locally and ecologically grown and produced. Well worth a visit!

To visit Vaxholm and Amanda, take a boat from Strömkajen or Strandvägen, step of at Vaxholm and you’ll find Magasinet at Lotsgatan 7, Vaxholm.
