This place is totally unexpected! Incredibly authentic! Narva kohvik has been open for 65 years already (!!).
First thing is the smell- a bakery. It reminded me of my childhood. All those cakes that I had when I was a kid. The smell is different, it’s like my grandmother’s place. Not fancy, extensively decorated pieces, but simple old-fashioned pies!
Narva kohvik is the place where elderly people meet to have their all time favourite sweets! Or fathers that take their kids out for a sweet treat! You can’t really find tourists here.
I can’t get over the furniture. All details are soo authentic- wooden and huge chairs, plants, lamps, pictures on the wall down to the dishes. We have quite many retro places in Tallinn, but they are trying to be retro- Narva kohvik actually has that breath of fresh air and true atmosphere without trying so hard.
The daily menu is very familiar for true Estonians- pancakes with sour-cream, potato salad with frankfurters, or cutlets with boiled potatoes. I couldn’t even imagine anything else on the menu.
I’m incredibly happy to have this place place here in Tallinn- every time it takes me back to my childhood. And I just love it!
