In the early ’90s von Krahl became the first privately owned theatre in Tallinn. Now, it’s well-known as a legendary center of Estonian avant-garde culture and independent music scene. As in Tallinn, in von Krahl the alternative music stage is mixed. You can get rock, new folk and heavy music gigs, the oldest reggae and hip hop parties like Bashment and Check One Two, house/electro sessions of Mutant Disco nights and many others. A first gig at von Krahl is probably like a ritual of initiation to the alternative music scene in Estonia for any of the young local instrumental bands.
On the second floor they have a theater, which is pretty entertaining and ironic. And yeah, after a renovation in 2013, this place now has a smart look from the outside with razors on the facade. The lovely open terrace, cheap bar, good food and democratic atmosphere are still there, so take your necktie off before you enter.
