Shapira neighborhood in South Tel Aviv is going through a serious transformation. Coffeelab, a cool, tiny coffee spot that distributes coffee and coffee machines to various cafes and restaurants across the city, is one of my favorite places.
Very close to where I work, and to many other local businesses, this spot is right on point. Their coffee is amazing and they sell huge sandwiches for relatively cheap in comparison to other cafes in the city.
Everyday, one of my coworkers or myself stop by at Coffee lab. The owners know all of us and allow us to sometimes hang out there with our laptops and talk about the neighborhood and the location they chose for their hipster cafe.
When I walk on Har Zion Blvd, where the café is located, I often can’t believe how neglected the area is in comparison to the center of the city, but then I see various businesses that are socially conscious and are interested in creating change for the community and I feel hopeful that soon enough the neighborhoods of South Tel Aviv will become friendly and inviting, as they used to be in the early days of the city.
Coffeelab is making a great contribution to the area. It attracts many young people to get coffee and spread the word that Tel Aviv has many narratives and faces to it, which for me is important and fascinating. I hope you will feel the same if you visit!
