The Florentin neighborhood in the southern part of Tel Aviv has become more and more gentrified over the past few years. From being a sketchy place to live in, it’s becoming more and more expensive and it’s bringing a young and strong community to live there.
Before Florentin loses its uniqueness and becomes just like Williamsburg, a fancy and boring place to live in, you’d better come and see the street art. On every second wall you will find graffiti. Some of them with political statements, some of them are just beautiful art which decorate the gray and old walls.
My favorite graffiti work is located in Abarbanel Street. It’s Marilyn Monroe as a gangster, I have no idea what the artist was thinking when he decided to put such a classic American figure on an old Tel Avivian wall but I think it’s beautiful.
In the past years the municipality has been trying to be more tolerant when it comes to street art in public spaces so you can see a lot of amazing art on the walls. Spend a nice day taking photos and TRY to figure out the message behind the amazing urban art.
