Toronto is definitely home to its fair share of comedians, amateur and professional. There’s quite a few bars that have open mike nights and even a few more well renowned places around the city. Comedy Bar is usually my choice when I’m in the mood for some funny business. It has a kind of community vibe and it’s the place my (sometimes self proclaimed) comedian friends go to when they want to watch comedy.
They have 2 small stages so there’s often more than one show going on at a time. If you’re there to see someone specific, make sure you’re in the correct room. I found this out the hard way when I tried to attend one of my friend’s shows a while back. Needless to say, I sat in the wrong room waiting for her improv troupe to come on… the whole night. Haha.
There’s a bunch of different shows and rotating acts going on at any one time (as the posters on the corkboard attest to) with many different styles of comedy being performed. There’s food, but nothing above what you would expect to come out of a comedy club’s kitchen. There’s a decent selection of on tap beers to choose from too. Post-show, the place takes on a more festive air as all the comedians and crowd get down to business and drink, socialize, and sometimes dance for the remainder of the night. If you’re looking to meet a funny man (or woman), this is your place!
