Scarborough Arts – Keeping art alive for all ages

I remember driving along Kingston Road on my way to drop my little sister off at her high school, not realizing that this gallery was hidden just behind the bushes – literally! Converted from a residential property into an art gallery and community space, the Scarborough Arts is home to local young artists.

After a tasty brunch, a friend invited me to visit Scarborough Arts with her to view an interesting exhibit featuring the evolution of motels around the Kingston Road area. Pulling up to the gallery, I noticed the vibrant and colourful design painted on the front door of the home. Far away it looked like any other home with tall hedges and a roundabout driveway by the front door. I guess, I’ve missed the big black signage for years! We entered through the back door then went up the narrow staircase and into the gallery. The space was cozy and neat with people admiring photographs and chatting away about their memories of the old motels.

Scarborough Arts also offers programs and classes for all ages to enjoy, keeping your creativity alive! There are membership fees to participate in their workshops and programs to help fund the non-profit organization. However, if you are below the age of 18 it’s free! The exhibits are free to view as well, unless indicated otherwise.
