Have you ever wanted to sing in a choir? Have you wanted to learn harmonies to popular songs? The Impromptu Rock Choir is where you can go to try it all out and meet like minded locals of all ages!
Singing rock, popular, and contemporary songs, the choir is lead by a local music teacher, Matt Smith. Past songs have been from artists such as the Beatles, Queen and Imagine Dragons. It is a super fun experience and I highly recommend trying it out!
The Impromptu Rock Choir members are super friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed; there is no audition or strict weekly attendance required. Matt really makes this choir special; his well thought out (and often comedic) coaching makes you feel comfortable, and turns this impromptu group into a sweet-sounding ensemble. If you are shy (or tone deaf), don’t worry, there are usually at least 40 people at each choir practice, so if you do hit a wrong note, no one will notice!
The choir meets Tuesday nights in East Vancouver, Wednesday nights in Kitsilano and Thursday nights in North Vancouver. Doors open at 19:00 and the choir starts singing at 19:30 and ends at 21:00 (or later if you go down to the bar after).
This is one of the most rewarding and fun ways to spend $ 10 (cash) on a weeknight, so don’t miss out!
Note: I’ve listed the Wise Hall address below (Vancouver); take a look at the choir’s website to see where the other locations are.
