Where do I go when I am stuck in downtown Vancouver and want cheap, good food? The Famous Warehouse. Almost everything on the food menu is $ 4.95 and the food is surprisingly good! This establishment offers drinks and pub fare – burgers, wings and nachos, but my all time favourite item is the turkey sandwich.
The Warehouse has 2 locations, one right on Granville Street and one near Gastown on West Hastings Street (The Hastings Warehouse), and I think both locations have the best quality, cheap pub food in the downtown area.
Inside the Famous Warehouse, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, with eclectic beer signs, cheery lights, comfortable seats and a wooden bar. Before 19:00 it’s pretty quiet, but at about 20:00 the music starts pumping and the lineup for food starts. If you want to try the Famous Warehouse with a crowd after 20:00 I recommend going in small groups of 2-3 so that you have a shorter wait. Be warned, when The Famous Warehouse is busy the service can be spotty and you have to make a point of grabbing a server’s attention, but the food is worth the wait.
On Friday and Saturday nights there is a DJ in house, and in December The Famous Warehouse holds its epic yearly paper scissor contest (for pretty cool prizes)!
If you’re hungry in downtown Vancouver and want inexpensive, good food, make your way over The Famous Warehouse. I’ll see you there!
