The Wurschtelprater together with the Tivoli in Copenhagen is one of the oldest amusement parks worldwide. In contrast to many other amusement parks, you don’t pay an entrance fee, instead you are charged for every attraction separately. Several attractions are way more than hundred years old, and they are worth their money just because of nostalgic reasons. But when it comes to action rides, you should be selective.
Most of the roller coasters for example I consider rather average, to put it nicely, but there is one fun ride which is a must for me whenever I visit the Wurschtelprater, and that’s the Black Mamba.
Strapped down you find yourself in a kind of vertical centrifuge which catapults you about 30 meters up. It is a unique thrill and an indescribable feeling to enjoy the Vienna skyline upside down, before rushing down in free fall back to earth, just to be thrown back again to the sky a split second later. I guarantee a euphoric feeling as soon as you’ve survived the ride. Friends of mine who lost their courage and refused the ride, confirmed that it is even worth to go there just to watch the people coming out of the Black Mamba. Nevertheless, I can just highly recommend you dare to try the ride – it is the best way to get high without the need of any drugs!
The nearest stations are Praterstern (U1, U2, Train) or Prater Hauptalle (final station of tram line 1).
