The Loft is a fairly new spot that opened about two years ago. This bar/cinema/pavilion/… attracted me in the first place because of its attitude. The owners regard themselves as ‘easy & casual’ which also is the kind of customer they want to allure. Given that the musical concept is not put into frame but flexible to differing parties, you get Electro, Hip Hop, Rock and Funk as well as unclassified genres.

Tuesdays are reserved for the movie night called filmloft where one can enjoy great shows for free! The topic of the movies changes every other month, original soundtrack with (English) subtitles assured. On Wednesday evenings singer/songwriters get the opportunity to perform – again entry is free of charge. Fridays and Saturdays are open to varied parties, dancing strictly recommended!

Their guiding slogan: “Working hard for better parties in Vienna!” tells you what to expect.

This is a very popular event amongst locals. More than 350 spotlights and live DJs make sure one really gets the open air disco feeling. During the week DJs are satisfying music wishes from five o’clock on and on weekends they even start at 2pm.

Honestly? To me that kind of activity is only breathtaking because I am going to land on my chest as soon as I step on the ice. I’m very much into sports but this one is just not made for me. Okay, I’ve got to admit the view itself truly is breathtaking.

As ice skating in front of Vienna’s city hall is oh so very special, my friends finally succeeded in convincing me to put on some slides – for the first time in 12 safe-from-harm-years. I’m suspicious of their motive, could be they only did so knowing it’s going to be a hilarious show for them. So if you witness a young woman lying face-down on the ice – that’s probably glorious me! You will only get to see that terrific happening in the area where beginners can skate for free. I guess I’ll be easy to spot among the kids who are no older than eight winters…

The Sargfabrik is Vienna’s biggest self-governing community and cultural building. There are flats, a kindergarten, a concert hall, a café-bar-restaurant, meeting rooms and a “bath house” (sauna, swimming pool, wellness area-open in winter, check the Sargfabrik-bathhouse article).

The café-bar-restaurant has recently re-opened with a new chef and offers culinary delights. The lunch menu for €7,90 including dessert and coffee seems to be a good reason for visiting the place! (open Mon-Sat: 10:00 – 22:00) There is a big choice of vegetarian food! On Monday and Tuesday evenings they have live music in the restaurant, donations to the artists are expected and table reservations recommended. It is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in architecture and also in the project itself. That its name means “coffin factory” is not just a curiosity, it really used to be one!

A small street, somewhere in the 3rd district in a quiet residential area… who would expect such an authentic Cretan cuisine here. The Taverna Lefteris might look like the typical Greek from around the corner, but the quality of the food is outstanding.

Native extra virgin olive oil is the base of most dishes. Fish specialties are always worth trying here, and the best choices are usually the current seasonal offers (which are usually not written anywhere, so ask the waiter!).

Food is served with a smile by the Greek staff and if you are curious enough to spy, you will see women ruling the kitchen. Open your stomach with a plate of Mesédes (cold or warm entrees) accompanied with homemade bread (incredible good!) and a glass of wine.
