This is a place where you either spend a lot of €uros or not a single cent. However I do think it’s nice to just go there for the touch of the past. I mean, one doesn’t refuse to go to a museum because they can’t buy & take home the art that is exposed there, right?

So if you go to Schönbrunn Palace or the Belvedere you must not sit on any of the furniture & feel like an emperor or a princess for a little while, here you can!

And what I like best about this free ‘museum’ is that it is constantly changing its objects without changing the topic. In addition you can take your stuff there if you want it to be restored or evaluated by a professional.

For shoestring budgets find the ARGE flea market just next door, Lorenz-Mandl-Gasse 31-35! This one is open Mon – Fri 08:00 – 17:00 for kitchenware & furniture as well as Wed & Fri for clothing, CDs, etc.

As the title implicates you’ll find several places within this spot, true to the maxim “Why be satisfied with just running a pub when you can have some many things at one time?”.

Pickwick’s is, above all, a real nice and relaxed Irish pub providing its guests with all kinds of beverages, snacks and music. What I personally love about the spot is that it really gives you a little bit of the feeling of being at home. Creating a great atmosphere, the place is furnished with some cosy armchairs, old fashioned sofas and big shelves filled with loads of books inviting you to stay a little bit longer and delve into English literature masterpieces.

And here’s the kicker: if you feel like exploring the place a little bit further, you should go and see the basement. Down there you’ll be amazed to see that Pickwick’s also houses Vienna’s biggest English video and DVD store, open way longer than all the other stores in town.

And just to make completely sure that guests are kept entertained, there are also weekly happenings such as Quiz Nights, Karaoke and similar..what more could you possibly wish for?

Pickwick’s offers you so many great and interesting things to spend your evenings with, and what’s best about it: every single one of them is worth a visit.

Founded in 1984, this store for streetwear comes with quite a history! It got bigger and bigger till they had to move to a three-story shop in Mariahilferstraße, one of Vienna’s two main shopping streets.

The stuff on offer here covers a huge variety of things you can think of to put on your body. They sell shoes, clothes, belts, caps, bags, wallets, sunglasses and watches. Brands you get here range from A like Alpinestars® to Z like Zimtstern®, the only letters missing are J,T,X and Y. Really, there’s no label starting with a T? Well, I trust those guys, if there were, they’d have it.

It may come as a surprise to some customers that all sorts of people gather here to shop. There are grannies shopping at Rag’s as well as seven-year-olds. Even though they have slightly more items for men, there are also lots of women working their way round here, a good mix I’d call it.

I truly love this shop ever since I accidentally stumbled upon it a few years back. Honestly I had never known there were so many products one can make from honey! For sure you find all sorts of delicious honey here, but also fine truffle commodities. Furthermore different kinds of Propolis products as well as sweets, candles and cosmetics.

My personal all-time favorite is “Honigbärchen”, honey gummy bears with passion fruit flavor. I must warn you, they are highly addictive!

There is another shop with only slightly shorter opening hours just around the corner of Westbahnhof (check out the Bahnhofcity article!), and recently they established their brand new third branch in the first district, Wollzeile 19 (2 min walk from St. Stephans Cathedral). On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays they also sell their goods at Naschmarkt, additionally you can find their products 24/7 in an online shop.

Fruits, vegetables, Kebab, Pizza, clothes, cafés and many Nations: that’s the Meiselmarkt. Maybe you will ask now: so what is special about it? Well, it is the atmosphere! Every market has another charm, so does this one.

Depending on who is selling what, which country’s influence is stronger and so on… Here you have the feeling that it is very well balanced between foreign stalls and Austrian ones. A Turk sells meat next to an Austrian bakery. While a Pakistani sells cheap clothing and shoes close to the cheese section of the Italian. And everybody seem to be friends, even if sometime there is a language barrier, people are warmhearted here and open to other cultures.

Sit down in one of the small eateries and just watch the people! A slice of Pizza at Intermezzo for € 2 is usually a good deal.
