Lucky me: I happen to pass by this beautiful spot of nature everyday on my way to university, so it offers me a great start in my morning. As the name already whistle-blows (Donaustadtbrücke = Danube City Bridge) you’ll have a great view of “the other side” of Vienna, or as some like to call it: Transdanubia.

Walking along the river dam that is situated right next to the bridge you’ll quickly recognize that the water levels differ from one side to the other. So if you happen to pass by the bridge on a stormy day you’ll see wild waves on one side facing a calm and carefree river flow on the other side, an amazing thing to see.

As soon as the first flowers are in blossom there are a lot of things going on, though this place always keeps it natural cosiness. You’ll find it hard not losing yourself in watching the brave ones riding their waveboards along the cable tightened across the river or cheering to surfers hanging loose on the river’s surface. There are great picnic spots all around, inviting you to spend a leisure afternoon enjoying Vienna’s green side. If you feel like bringing more people you’ll even find some grill spots here and there.

Donaustadtbrücke is a metro station, just take U2 heading to the outskirts and you’ll be fine. And as this spot leads right to Vienna’s Donauinsel you can have a long walk on its either snowy or sapgreen roads…enjoy!
