WB thank you for letting me know at least one person out there actually does like the hall built in the 50ies!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder however I'm not going to stand up for the new building either.

Thank you Gary and Joshua about your input on this article. We have never had dinner at the Café Westend, we spend time here reading and having a coffee or a cake. We are aware that waiters can be rude, but still we like the place for its old charm.

I thought this place was going to be run-down but tasty. It was by far the worst meal I had in Vienna--and not the cheapest. Everything came with deepfried potatoes, even if the description said otherwise. And I know there is a bread charge often in Vienna, but this place was ridiculous. They charged us 2 euros per item. I know that most foreigners getting off the train would have no idea and would just eat the bread. The staff must also know that most foreigners will be suprised, because the waiter completely disappeared when the bill arrived. This place was a total rip-off.

Great suggestion. I'll be in Wien soon, and as every other time, I'll be at the Staatsoper. I just hope that, among the others, I'll be able to find some tickets for the Dessay dates.

I was literally living in a flat around the corner from this lovely square when I was in Wien for a few weeks last month - it is so beautiful and peaceful, and there truly are some neat shops, including a Coffee School just around the corner! I miss it greatly. This is a great place to go if you want to relax away from tourists and get a feel for real Viennese life.
